Jane Bloodgood-Abrams first began exhibiting at Carrie Haddad Gallery fourteen years ago and returns this fall with new landscapes of the Hudson Valley that have continued to gain her much recognition and awards. Bloodgood-Abrams received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1987, and a Bachelor of Studio Arts degree from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY in 1985. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and is listed in "Who's Who in American Art." In 2002 Jane Bloodgood-Abrams was inducted into the National Association of Women Artists. The artist's work is included in numerous private and public collections and is represented by galleries across the country and in the Hudson Valley region of New York State.
Four new artists premiere their work during this fall exhibit as well. These artists include Ed McCartan, Phillip Schwartz, Marlene Wiedenbaum and Danny Garcia de Alejandro.
Ed McCartan's current work is an exploration of balance and harmony. McCarten's paintings are meditations on natural forms --the mythic world of plants, flowers, gardens and organic matter. Of his work, McCarten states "I am trying to hold up to view the fagile beauty found in humble things, to turn it around and examine its many facets." Holding numerous degrees in Philosophy, Theology, Art Education, and Painting along with a fifteen year exhibition history throughout the Northeast, this will be McCarten's first show with Carrie Haddad Gallery. The artist currently resides in Cropseyville, New York.
Phillip Schwartz's small twelve by twelve inch panels explore a peculiar world of inanimate objects - children's toys, shapely squash, vases, and books. The richly textured paintings are full of contrast between light and dark and object to object. For Schwartz, painting still lifes is a way of working with found objects. Originally a sculptor, he finds that in painting, the object can be used repeatedly and studied in different ways. It is a liberating realization because the fear of losing the object he is working with to an unsuccessful piece is diminished. Schwartz recieved a degree in painting from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and currently lives in Columbia County.
Marlene Wiedenbaum, a native New Yorker, is on the faculty of the Highland Cultural Center in conjunction with Ulster County Community College. An award winning pastelist, her figurative and landscape paintings have been exhibited in New York, California, New Orleans, Pennslyvania, and Connecticut.
Manhattan native Danny Garica de Alejandro attended the High School of Art & Design and the San Francisco Art Institute. After numerous stints in visual merchandising for a varietyof major Fifth avenue retailers, he reloacted to South Beach in the late 1980's where he became photo editor and personality photographer for Antenna Magazine. Garcia-Alejandro quickly became the premiere documentarian of the then-exploding Miami fashion, art and music scene. Since relocating to Hudson, New York, Garcia-Alejandro's work has taken a new direction, focussing on the textures, juxtapositions and geometries of the enviroment in repose
