Dale Payson Still Lifes, Anne Francey Ceramics, and abstract paintings by Jenny Kemp and Kathy Burge

March 7, 2013 through April 14, 2013

Carrie Haddad Gallery is pleased to present An Early Spring, an exhibit of work by three artists of the gallery, featuring color-drenched still lifes by Dale Payson, abstract gouache paintings by Jenny Kemp, and wall relief ceramic paintings by Anne Francey. The work will be on view from March 7 through April 14 with a reception for the artists on Saturday, March 9 from 6-8 PM. All are welcome. Dale Payson, known for refreshingly colorful paintings of flowers and fruit, is back in the studio wielding a looser brushstroke and lighter color palette in these new still life paintings. By subtly flattening perspective, she brings the background forward to create a powerful statement. Payson studied extensively at the School of Visual Arts in New York and eventually ended up as an instructor at the same institution. Before painting became her sole ambition, she was a freelance book illustrator with over 25 published books to her credit. This exhibit marks the 20th year that Payson has been exhibiting with Carrie Haddad Gallery. This “natural world” imagery continues with Anne Francey’s ceramic sculptures of plants and insects. Her observations oscillate between representations and abstraction, organic shapes and geometric order. She states “Could these abstracted forms of insects and plants, hardened forever in the fired clay, become imprints of the past like fossils of a bygone era?” Jenny Kemp will be exhibiting gouache paintings which are rather surreal, with biomorphic and graphic shapes rendered in sophisticated color. Kemp recently graduated with an MFA in painting from SUNY Albany. Kathy Burge, who recently moved to England, exhibits a group of paintings from her last exhibits with the gallery. Some paintings have been shown already and others are gems that hung in her home or studio.
