Linda Newman Boughton
Linda Newman Boughton creates baroque drawings entirely with ballpoint pens as her medium. To create depictions of untouched forests, the artist references her own photographs taken during long walks in the woods. The drawings are loose and gestural and intricate all at the same time from multiple layers of kinetic and contained lines forming the landscape.The energy of the layered lines conveys the life force and spiritual contact she feels while walking in nature. Boughton's passion for drawing started as a child teaching herself to draw from watching her grandmother draw and paint. She later took her drawing skills to The Fashion Institute of Technology in NY where she graduated cum laude in Fashion Illustration. A love of acting and design ultimately steered her to Hollywood where she began painting sets and murals for TV and film but ultimately created portraits and fine art reproductions for top shows and movies like: Water for Elephants, Fight Club and Nightmare on Elm Street VII, to name a few. Several of her first ballpoint pen landscapes are part of the prestigious Stuart and Lynda Resnik private collection and her work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, Florida, The Chautauqua Institute in NY and The Carrie Haddad Gallery since 2014.

Civil War Soldiers
The Civil War drawings were my first ballpoint pen drawings and inspired from a dream I had while briefly living in China. The dream had me leaving an exhibit of art which I loved and I awoke sketching an image of one of the works of art so I could remember what I dreamt the next day. All I could make out in my memory was three figures in old fashioned clothing standing under a tree. A few days later I happened upon a book of photographs from the Civil War taken by Mathew Brady and decided to thumb through. As I flipped through pages of images I stopped abruptly on an image of three soldiers standing under a tree. It struck me as being the image I saw in my dream. I began looking closer at the photos and knew I had to draw these men and try to capture the expressions on their faces daring to share whatever I could of their amazing lives as soldiers. Not being a believer in war I was surprised by my need to draw them and found the experience quite emotional for me.

Linda grew up in a highly artistic and theatrical family. Drawing and acting in plays were a fundamental part of her early years. She attended Florida State University with a theater major and fine arts minord a fine arts minor where she took several drawing classes. Attending a fashion illustration class on a whim resulted in her abilities shining. She taught a summer course at FSU before moving to New York City and later graduated with honors from The Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Fashion Illustration.
She continued working in the fashion industry for nearly a decade as a photographer, illustrator and designer of junior accessories. Missing her theatrical side, she moved to Hollywood to pursue artistic avenues working as a lead scenic in the TV and Movie industry. As a scenic she painted sets and soon found herself creating artwork for those sets as well. This would become the main focus and career, painting murals and making copies of famous artworks or creating portraits of the actors in just about any style requested of her. Some of her original and predesigned artwork pieces can be seen in the movies: Water for Elephants, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Nightmare on Elm Street 7, and Fight Club. Her artwork also was on Amazon's- Man in the High Castle and several TV episodes of Will and Grace and Desperate Housewives.
Linda Newman Boughton has exhibited in several shows in New York and Los Angeles and has paintings and drawings in Lynda and Stuart Resnik's personal art collection.
