Carrie Haddad Gallery is pleased to announce the work of Mark Beard, Harry Orlyk and Dale Payson. This exciting exhibit will run July 7 through August 14, 2005. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Saturday July 9 from 6pm to 8pm. Please join us prior to the reception at 4pm along with guest speaker Peter Barton, artist, art writer, and publisher of Hudson River Art Magazine for an interview and discussion with the artists.

Mark Beard is unprecedented, but not singular. Accomplished in every medium, he is more than a complete artist – he is at least five. (A sixth is now emerging as well.). His talent is so overflowing that, years ago, he needed to channel himself into alter egos. Mark invented the persona of “Bruce Sargeant,” an imagined English artist, contemporary of E. M. Foster, Rupert Brooke, and Joan Sloan. Mark also created Bruce Sargeant’s teacher, Hippoyte Alexandre Michallon, a 19th- century French Academist. Michallon also taught Edith Thayer Cromwell, an American avant-gardeist; and Brechtolt Steeruwitz, the German Expressionist, a most complex personality. The margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Gallery owner John Stevenson writes, “A visit to Mark’s studio is like discovering Michelangelo’s lair: oil paintings layer the walls, life drawings litter the table at the feet of heroic bronzes; ceramics, architectural maquettes are everywhere; virtuosity, in every medium.”

Born in 1956 in Salt Lake City, Beard now lives in New York . His works are in museum collections, including the Boston MFA and the Antheneum; the Whitney, Metrolpolitian Museum of Fine Art and MoMA New York; Princeton, Harvard, and Yale Universities; Graphische Sammlung, Munich, and others worldwide as well as more than 100 private collections.

Also on exhibit is new work by long-time gallery artist Harry Orlyk. Orlyk works out of the back of his van, recording the landscape around his home in Salem, New York, and in so doing offers a journey into the serenity of the American countryside. Orlyk uses a free-spirited margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Harry Orlyk was born in Troy, NY in 1947. He received his M.F.A. in 1974 from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He received the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in 1995.

Our third artist on exhibit is Dale Payson. Payson’s still life’s literally explode off the canvas. By subtly flattening perspective, she brings the background forward to create a powerful statement. Her use of color is unbridled, bold and refreshing.

Payson studied extensively at the School of Visual Arts in New York and eventually taught at this prestigious institution. Before painting became her sole ambition she was a freelance book illustrator, with more than 25 books to her credit. Dale has won numerous awards from many shows and exhibitions, among them the Greenwich Art Society and the renowned Salmagundi Club in New York. Her work hangs in many corporate and museum collections including Nabisco Foods, Dunkin Donuts and the University of Minnesota’s Kerlan Collection.
